The wisdom and knowledge free essay sample

Though knowledge and wisdom may seem alike, they are really very different. They actually only have two things in common they both involve the mind and both are hard to acquire. Someone who has knowledge would know that a tomato is a fruit, but someone who had wisdom would know not to put them in a fruit salad. Anyone can obtain knowledge about anything, but only some can use that knowledge and apply it in the best way.Knowledge is information of which someone is aware. Knowledge is also used to mean the confident understanding of a subject, potentially with the ability to use it for a specific purposeWisdom is the ability to make correct judgments and decisions. It is an intangible quality gained presumably through experience.Wisdom, the goal for which Govinda seeks, is a manner of living, a capacity, and not an object which one can isolate and capture in thoughts. We will write a custom essay sample on The wisdom and knowledge or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This is Siddharthas second lesson: while knowledge is communicable, but wisdom is not. No one can tell you where to find wisdom; it simply comes when you are ready to receive it. Siddharthas third lesson is that words are deceptive, which he expresses in the paradoxical phrase that in every truth the opposite is equally trueMany people mistake knowledge for wisdom because they are intimately related, and this is unfortunate because they are quite different in an important way. Knowledge is the accumulation of facts and information. Wisdom is the synthesis of knowledge and experiences into insights that deepen one’s understanding of relationships and the meaning of life. In other words, knowledge is a tool, and wisdom is the craft in which the tool is used. If one understands this difference, he or she will also appreciate why it is vital to properly distinguish between the two. With the Internet, it is now relatively easy for a reasonably diligent person to quickly become knowledgeable in virtually any field of his or her choosing. We are literally awash in a sea of information! But having a hammer and knowing how to use it are two entirely different propositions. A hammer is amoral. Whether it is used for good or ill depends entirely on the wielder. Sadly, history is a lengthy record of the harms wrought by knowledgeable, well-meaning people who lacked wisdom. In contrast to knowledge, wisdom is generally considered to be morally good. Why is this the case? Albert Einstein once said, ‘Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.’ Such a process is lengthy and arduous, which teaches the pursuer patience and humility. Seldom is a person unchanged by such a trial. When one finally uncovers a connection or insight that he or she believes to be universally applicable ‘truth,’ it often inspires awe akin to a spiritual experience. ‘Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers,’ wrote Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Truths stay with a person for the rest of his or her life, coloring all subsequent thoughts and actions. Wisdom requires no law or threat of punishment to ensure compliance. The practitioner typically feels a strong compulsion to obey his or her own beliefs. The wise can still fall prey to indiscretions and questionable moral behavior–being flesh and blood like us all–however, if one tracks such statistics, the odds of such failings are likely to be very small compared to the general populace. Society esteems the wise for their virtuosity and for their rarity. Subject matter experts number in the thousands, but the wise may only number in the tens or hundreds. And history records their names and achievements for posterity’s sake. Knowledgeable people spend most of their time planning out exactly when something should happen and just how long it has to take. And after they have completed the task of planning everything they spend the rest of their time accomplishing everything on their list; the only thought in their minds is that everything at one time or another has to be completed. Wise people are aware of the fact that you can only plan so much and the rest should be done when time allows. They know that it is not only impossible to plan every moment that one is awake, but that this is equally an ineffective way to live ones life. Wise people also know that not everything can be done in the time allotted, and that you must use your time for business as well as pleasure.

Life Without Technology free essay sample

If someone told me that I would have to be technology-free for 24 hours I would probably have asked them for a tranquilizer so I could sleep through the horrid day. From the moment my alarm clock goes off in the morning to the time I set It at night I am using some sort of technology. I couldnt even eat lunch at school without the help of those little machines that take our meal plans. Last week I did my best and tried as hard as I could to be free from technology. Obviously, being at college made It Impossible but it was a good experience nonetheless. After my alarm goes off, Its time to take a shower. The lights arent necessary so I leave them off. I come back from my shower with sopping wet hair and decide to suck It up and leave the blow dryer In the closet. I decide that it isnt because I am waiting for a letter from my boyfriend. As we walk to lunch I see the blue emergency post and ask aloud: If I was [pick Honestly, I would have to admit that my day was not all that bad. My wet hair eventually dried itself from running up and down the seven flights of stairs. There is so much that we take for granted it is unbelievable. Even if I wanted to be absolutely free from technology I couldnt. Lights are on everywhere you go and someone always wants you to listen to the message on their cell phone from their boyfriend. There are unavoidable motion sensor lights and unavoidable automatic doors.Car trips, if driving in the car were even allowed, would be extremely boring not to mention dangerous. Without traffic signals there would be a lot of accidents; for some reason I dont think people would pay attention to little men in bright orange vests waving flags. I am convinced that without technology smoking and drug use would Increase and people would be fat. While people would be forced to walk most places I think that they would Just choose to stay closer to home. Sleeping would probably take precedence over most activities, except maybe those associated with reproduction. So basically If you think about It the world would literally be one big, fat, high, drunk family. On Mondays I have geography and my teacher lectures with the help of Powering. Since there Is no way I can copy notes from Just listening I once again must give In to the machine. On the way back from class my roommate and I cut through the Science building to make our trip shorter. It isnt until I am through the second door that things we take for granted. How the Holocaust Affected Its Jewish Victims essays

How the Holocaust Affected Its Jewish Victims essays There is no question in my mind that the mass killings of the Jews during World War II affected the lives of these people and the people who loved and knew them greatly. I wholeheartedly disagree with the people who claim it never happened, whether they are against the Holocaust theory or are just plain prejudice towards Jews. There were murders by the millions, and the Jewish victims of the Holocaust were affected by it, both directly and indirectly, as were their family members and friends who may have been thousands of miles away. Even today, people in the world are still affected by the extermination of millions of lives in Eastern Europe. In the same respect (if you call it respect), there are still many people, even entire institutions, who seek to discredit the veracity of the Holocaust, going as far to claim that none of the horrific events ever occurred. I will prove that the Holocaust affected many lives, both in living and in death, and that it did indeed happen, through relating factual and opinionated accounts of victims and witnesses, and explaining why what happened to the Jewish population of the Holocaust happened. The Holocaust has been called a Tragic legacy. It has also been called a hoax. Despite what the deniers of the holocaust may think, it did indeed happen. It affected the lives of too many people, millions, if not the billions who knew of it, were related to those who were, in fact, statistics of the Holocaust. Jews, homosexuals, gypsies, and other minorities of Germany and neighboring countries were executed by the millions. I am at first very hesitant about completing a report on the holocaust and those who seek to deny it ever happened. It did happen, it affected millions upon millions of people around our planet, and it continues to be a reigning issue. I felt that, like the author of "Denying the Holocaust: The growing assault on truth and memory", I should not feed into th...

Encounter Point Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Encounter Point - Movie Review Example The movie shows Israel having a strong army, though it itself is most of the times at the receiving end of the Palestinian violence. In one scene Roni Hirschenson, a former soldier, says that Israel has become an army with a state and not state with an army. This is a very strong statement by someone who has lost two of his son’s directly or indirectly in the war. Another reason there seems to be inequality between Israelis and Palestinians is that violence from Israel comes in a very sophisticated manner. There is usage of modern technology and unfortunately many ordinary people are killed in the attacks. The backing of United States as mentioned in the movie also shows Israel to be a stronger side. a- I don’t think that the movie has taken any sides. I think that the movie is very neutral and the purpose of such movies should be to raise a debate over the existing conditions. There may be people who think that this movie takes sides but I think that they feel that only because of the resentment that resides in them regarding the opposite side. The film shows destruction from both the sides. It takes interviews of victims from both Israelis and Palestinians. b- I think a balanced film is a film which shows reality in a non-provocative manner. This means that the reality on ground may be different but the film has to present facts in such a manner that it doesn’t offend either party. Each side believes that they are absolutely right and in this case each side believes that god is on their side. The film cannot comment on the reality or possibility of god taking any particular side in the future. But what a balanced film can do is raise the issue and spark a healthy debate. c- I will definitely recommend the video to other viewers. The movie is very informative but most importantly it clearly shows the destruction caused by violence. People are
